Make your own souvenir
in Bratislava's Old Town

Most of this street sells souvenirs. In this shop you can make one. A small ceramics workshop for up to four people, run by the woman whose work is on the shelves.

You shape a bowl, in a class of four at most

A large class is eight or ten people and one teacher walking between tables. Here there are never more than four of us, so there is time to stand next to you and show you with hands rather than call across a room.

The workshop lasts two hours and costs €80 per person.

You shape a bowl or a mug by hand. This is a hand-building workshop, so there is no pottery wheel. Clay is forgiving while it is wet, so you do not have to get it right the first time, and you do not need to have done this before.

The ceramics I make are built by hand, so you can see the fingermarks in the glaze. After the workshop your piece carries yours.

When you can take your piece home

Clay has to dry and then be fired, so the bowl you shape is not finished the same day. That is simply how ceramics works — and it is worth knowing before you come rather than after.

How you get your piece afterwards is something we sort out when you call — tell me how long you are in Bratislava and we will find a way that works.

A magnet ends up in a drawer. A bowl you shaped yourself gets used at breakfast — and every time, you are back in this room for a second.
